Five Things To Stop (or Minimize) in 2023 and Beyond

Five Things To Stop (or Minimize) in 2023 and Beyond

The prior article this week includes a list of the top five things you can do now and for life to help ensure a healthier life.

January often brings forward a list of don’ts or eliminate such as alcohol or sugar, or “carbs.”

So, here is the list of things to consider stopping or eliminating in 2023.

Don’t put your self-worth with the number on the scale

Ignore the number on the scale. Better yet, stop using a scale completely. It is merely a measure of mass and doesn’t tell you how your body is doing.

You can exercise, build up muscle, and gain weight (muscle does not weigh more than fat).

You can see how your clothing fits differently.

You can ask that you not be weighed at the doctor’s office (unless necessary).

But your self-esteem, self-worth, and value are not connected to that number.

Your health is not a number on a scale.

Don’t skip meals

Skipping a meal can lead to overeating later.

Skipping meals can lead to drops in blood glucose and subsequent insulin spikes.

Skipping meals is not a way to lose weight. Instead, it is a way to ensure irritability and poor decision-making.

If you don’t want a full meal, then snacks are appropriate.

Don’t avoid warning signs that something may be wrong.

Don’t avoid the warning signs

There are usually warning signs when something is wrong in your body. Granted, not every single time, but often.

You don’t feel good. You have an unusual pain. The worst headache of your life. Difficulty breathing. You have muscle aches that won’t go away. That mole is new or more significant now than it was last month.

The body is usually good about warning us that something is wrong.

And it can be just one thing – difficulty breathing. Or just the muscle ache or pain that won’t go away.

If something is not quite right, then get it checked. Sooner rather than later.

Don’t beat yourself up

This idea that we have to eat perfectly is a myth.

Avoiding sugar or carbs isn’t sustainable.

And give yourself grace if you feel you gained weight or didn’t get everything done on your much too-long list.

And realize that you and everything else are a work in progress.

Don’t give up

Just because something didn’t go right the first time or the third time doesn’t mean it won’t eventually.

Be patient.

The household cleaner Formula 409 resulted from more than 408 attempts at making an all-purpose cleaner. And those were scientists.

There are many stories of persistence (and patience), so be one of those people. And remember that 21 days to create a habit is a myth.

You know that saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.”

Can you do it in 2023? Try out the “don’ts” above.
